Lauri Shillings is a lifelong Hoosier, community leader, and Libertarian candidate for Indiana Secretary of State. She is running to restore trust, transparency, and independence to one of the most important offices in Indiana government.

The Secretary of State serves as Indiana’s chief elections officer and record keeper, overseeing elections, business services, and public records that impact millions of Hoosiers. Lauri believes this office must serve the people of Indiana—not political parties or outside pressure.

With more than 20 years of leadership experience in business, media, marketing, and higher education, Lauri brings a practical, service-oriented perspective to public leadership. She currently works in creative leadership and education while also operating her small business, Pirate Smile Media, which she founded in 2000.

Lauri’s commitment to public service began early. Her family roots trace back to one of the original homesteads along the Tippecanoe and Montgomery County border, settled in the early 1800s. Growing up in a working-class Hoosier family instilled in her a belief that government should remain accountable, transparent, and grounded in the needs of everyday citizens.

Throughout her career, Lauri has combined entrepreneurship, education, and civic engagement. She has owned multiple small businesses, worked in media and marketing, and taught at the university level. Her professional experience gives her firsthand understanding of how government systems affect entrepreneurs, voters, and communities.

Lauri has also been deeply involved in grassroots political organizing. She served four years as Chair of the Hamilton County Libertarian Party and two years as the 5th District Representative for the Libertarian Party of Indiana, helping grow local political engagement and advocating for principled leadership.

As Secretary of State, Lauri is focused on three core priorities:

• Protecting the integrity and neutrality of Indiana’s elections

• Modernizing business and government services to better serve Hoosiers

• Restoring public trust through transparency, accountability, and ethical leadership

Lauri believes government should be efficient, fair, and focused on serving the public. Her campaign is rooted in the idea that Indiana’s institutions should work for the people—not political insiders.
